Hallo! I am new here and wanted to add my horses to the pedigree manager. Could somone tell me how I can do that? Or can´t I and do I need to contact the webmaster? Thank you for helping.

Thank you. I have tried it, but I get the weirdest results. First, there are many indications I simply do not understand. What is this ID thing? Then I found out that "title" means "name", then the birth year only cannot be filled in, you have to add zero´s, but it worked. However, with the parents I simply do not come through: when I give a name, I get "root". One of my mares has a dam with a number in her name and now a competely wrong mare is indicated as her dam and I cannot get it changed. I finally deleted everything. I am normally not bad with computers, but this beat me. If you could give me some more details as how to fill in the windows in the form, I´ll try again. Thanks!

Sorry I don't have anything to contribute to this thread, but just wanted to say "hi" and that I have enjoyed browsing your web site, especially the photos you took of your reference stallions such as Thee Desperado. Different photographers add a different perspective.

I have found this an EXTREMELY difficult system to work with as well.  Hopefully the webmasters will either be able to make the program more user friendly, or possibly devise a completely different system.  I, too, have added the parents names, and they don't seem to come through.  I have tried and tried and tried, and am soon going to give up in frustration!  LOL

How to add parents:

1. At the bottom of the page, uncheck the box "Only use my horse". The default is always checked but we should probably change the default to unchecked.

2. Then in the box "search sire" or "search dam" enter part of the name and click the box "search sire" ( or dam). This will bring up all of the horses already in the database with that as part of their name. For example if you enter "bint" it will list all horses already in the system with that in the name.

3. If the horse is in the database, click on the circle on the left side of the name. Make sure you click on save at the top of the page before leaving that page. However, if you still have changes to make, click apply at the top of the page and you will see if the changes you have made took.

4. An alternate way of adding the parent if it is in the database is to put the ID ( different from the unique ID) in the "Or enter parent ID" box. If the horse you want to connect is not in the system yet, you will need to add it through the "Add My Horse" feature and then connect it to your horse as a parent.

Note: Make sure you search for a horse before adding it to the system as we have many of the ancestral horses already entered. It will save a lot to time and effort. Also, if you have a picture for your horse or others in the database without photos, please add them or send them to me and I can add them for you!

Improvements to the system are still being made but all suggestions are helpful.  You can PM me directly if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks so much, Valerie, for the instructions.  It would have been helpful (and much less frustrating) to know about #1 before trying again and again!  You have been SOOO helpful, that I have a couple of Krattens, in a box, tied up with a pretty bow, on their way to you!  LOL (Just kidding!)

Valerie, thanks !!! I just don't get around much, working on ABN and EBC front page integration mostly... The pedigree module is very complex, and I have struggled to make it as easy as I can, but I think getting better and better ideas, we looked at a few off the shelf solutions, but none offered "member" availability to add or modify content, all was handled through the administration site only allowing the admins to add and upload to the server.. This is totally custom designed .. by us. Please remember it is always going to be added to.  We really do need a "directions" page.. my skype is arabianbreeders if I'm online shoot me a message, Ideas are welcome ... slowly it will be a finished product and ease of use is our goal..

Well, I love the pedigree feature!  I do admit it took me awhile to get the hang of it.  And I'm sorry to say that I have added horses that were already listed.  How can I delete them?
