However, my focus is riding horses and people who ride only care that the horse in question carries a rider,

I love this. And I do wish more people worried about that rather than other traits they focus on. And you aren't the type person who hasn't tested your mares that I was refering to: you are breeding to tested clear stallions, so it's not a shot in the dark. It's the "ignorance is bliss" in the breeding shed that I was refering to.

I'm so proud to be part of this group that is testing horses as they can while many of the large breeders are sitting on their hands refusing to test, or even those that have and haven't disclosed their carriers.

Hi Jan, I think it is back on page 1 of this thread.
Oops, I just went through all the links posted here and NONE of them connect or work. Back to square 1 and I will go to the AHA genetics thread and try to get a current address as I have one to test.
Ok, so now I have found a link on the AHA -Education-Genetics topic. The address is AHDC.vet.cornell.edu/news/lfs.cfm. Or just go to the AHA website and at the top you can click on the "Education" link and find it under the "Genetics" heading. Took me a minute but now I have printed off my forms and am ready to send them in. They say it takes 10 business days to get the results.

There's also a test available through VHL in Holland
They have very good rates for the triple test SCID, CA and LFS.. AND they keep your horse's DNA records on data file.. So for example, I did NOT need to send in more hair for my LFS test, just the money, and they used the DNA profile that they had on him for that.

http://www.vhlgeneti...om/vhl/?lang=uk

they don't give the prices on the website, but they sent a mailer out, so I responded to that.. They speak excellent English..

I just got the test results back and our colt AdEA Maar Azdac (Emir Ibn Farazdac x Cameo Csavanaa - Abraxas Halimaar x Khartahl Cameo), is SCID clear, LFS NN (clear of LFS mutation). He is also CA clear because both of his parents are tested clear. :)

  • Interests:I am completely new to the world of the Straight Egyptian. I have always loved Arabians, and I own 2 that are polish bred. I have recently acquired a Straight Egyptian stallion and I plan on breeding and building up my own straight egyptian farm. My equine children are MSU Sweet Justice (Hucklebey Berry x Pasketta), PM Soulstice (Solstice x MS Kora), and Ibn El Norus (El Norus x Maar Halima). I have done most of the training of my horses myself, and I am using Parelli Natural Horsemanship methods with them.

Very happy to report that my stallion, Ibn El Norus, has tested clear for SCID, CA, and LFS  :D

The official release re: the Cornell test will come when the embargo is released on the scientific manuscript pending publication and the licensing details are finalized with the lab(s) who will commerically offer the test; as Cornell is not set up to commerically run the test.

The South African test is a separate test, offered by a lab in South Africa based on work they have done. I haven't seen any published work regarding this test and am not sure if they have anything submitted for publication or not.

Beth

Beth, I dont understand all this. We tested all our horses and does this now mean it is obsolete?

Posting an update here - Ansata Nadeem's test results just came back as negative for LFS, so is now tested negative/clear for SCID, CA AND LFS!

And he's leased to David Myers (www.REArabians.com) and is standing at stud with him for the 2013 and 2014 breeding seasons.

OSIRION (Omar Saalim x Mysteekh by Ibn El Mareekh) is CA clear by parentage and tested LFS N/N

After I had already paid for testing my herd for CA & LFS, I found a site that offers the best deal yet on the combined panel (SCID, LFS & CA). All three tests are $125! You can guess where I will go next time, although right now I only have the SCID test remaining for my breeding animals.
