There's a small article about the finding of a form of SCID in a Caspian Pony foal.  It's stated that an Arabian SCID test was done but proved negative.  However, a necropsy (September 2009) has suggested SCID in a "Caspian Pony" form - virtually no thymus... no lymphocytes... and nor were there any lymphocyte precursors detected in his bone marrow... all of these findings, according to Witonsky and larson, point to a "text-book case" of SCID.  A report will be produced shortly for a scientific journal.

This brings to mind something that I've sometimes pondered: given that the Arabian has been fairly extensively used for other breeds, is it possible that other breeds have CA carriers as well? As when you cover your non-Arabian mare with a stallion that happens to be a CA carrier. Is it possible that the resulting foal is a CA carrier even when it isn't a pure Arabian?

Some of the Warmblood breeds that accept Arab mares for breeding require that the mare be tested negative for SCID before she is inspected.

that's logical, understandable and exceptable
