Do you have any information on actually submitting the samples? Can we do it ourselves or do they still want a vet to do it? Is there a particular form to submit the sample, or do we use the general submission form? Maybe all this information is on their website somewhere, but I'm not seeing it.

I think they outlined the ordering process in the fact sheet:
http://ahdc.vet.corn.../issues/lfs.asp
My understanding is that going through a vet is NOT going to be required.

Out of curiosity how did you pay for it? My reading of the process was that they needed you to have an account, and I took that to mean an account held by a vet. I could have totally stuffed this up & would be pleased if I have as the vet we approached wanted something like $70 just for dealing with Cornell. Take that out & it is much easier & cheaper than Pretoria.

Scrap that... I now see the form to use! Excellent!!! Now why can't these institutions provide a secure way of making payment rather than having us submit a form on which there is enough info for any dishonest person to clean out our bank account? Paypal? If the AHSA can embrace Paypal (well at least for renewals) surely a Uni full of geeks can lol....

Beth is there going to be a separate site to report LFS results or just continue to use the wonderful CA site?

As soon as the LFS list begins to get developed, it will be posted on the FOAL site and a link to the list will be posted.

An emphatic NO - it is NOT just in Egyptians...though people tend to associate LFS with Egyptians because most of the reported cases (particularly those studied by researchers) have been Egyptian. Australia has seen reported cases in the Crabbet lines and I can think of at least one foal here in the US that was CMK breeding. I also recall some reports back in the 1980s involving some horses of Russian breeding.
However, given that Egypt has a relationship to these other groups - there is likely a common ancestral point. But, in terms of pedigree - LFS IS NOT just an "Egyptian thing".
Hope that helps!

Big news for us Aussies!
The LFS test is now available via the NSW Department of Primary Industry from the Menangle facility in Sydney. Contact details are as follows:
Brendon O'Rourke,
Molecular Diagnostic and Genetics Unit
State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory
Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute
Postal: PMB 4008 Narellan 2567
Courier: Woodbridge Rd Menangle NSW 2568
ph: (office) +61 2 4640 6474
ph: (lab) +61 2 4640 6417
fax: +61 2 4640 6300
email: brendon.o'rourke@industry.nsw.gov.au
The price is $57.10 and turnaround is 10 days. Bulk pricing is being negotiated through the AHSA... the HYPP test in bulk is about 50% of the one-off price so this may see us get the best pricing in the world for this test.
It is understood that Uni of Queensland intend to also offer the test soon.
Now why can't Vetgen take the hint that these institutions should also be offering the SCID test? Oh sorry, I forgot that would cut in to their profits!
Come on Aussies- support our Aussie institutions that are supporting the Aussie Arabian industry!!! CA testing may be available soon...

I looked at their conditions yesterday & they do take overseas samples so long as the hair is accompanied by a declaration that it was heated to 70 degrees celcius for 15 minutes before sending. The NZ breeders should talk to the AHSA... Helen Dohan is asking for numbers to ascertain demand. The bulk rate appears to be 30, and is only available via breed registries.

I'm at the Pyramid Society's Breeders Conference in Atlanta, where the Institute is a sponsor. We have a table for literature, so I printed a bunch of the forms for Cornell and assembled mini-packets to make it easy for folks to send in samples (the three forms plus 2 envelopes). Guess what, that was the FIRST thing I ran out of!! I find that very encouraging.

For those Aussies & Kiwis thinking of using the NSW Dept of Primary Industry (now I&I) test, the new submission form is attached. Testing costs $57.10 per hair sample;normal turnaround is 10 working days; they will invoice you upon completion of testing (multiple payment options). Samples can be sent by post, or you are welcome to deliver them personally (this was confirmed by them this morning).
Cheers,
Richard
