I've been looking at a few different international shipping companies and I'm left wondering.

How do horses get here (to the U.S.) from Egypt?  It doesn't appear that there are any shippers that serve the Cairo International Airport.  So how would they get to the U.S.?

Does anyone know anything about Cairo to anywhere international horse shipping?
Even if it's like just a leg, like Germany to Cairo or something like that...then at least I'd know that shippers GO there so they GOTTA come back ;)

Anyone? I'm trying to do a little research and I'm hoping for an easy answer here so I don't have to start calling and bothering people

I am going to assume I understand you right. I know I have flown horses both privately and on consignment via Bahrain, Cairo to Dubai/Abu Dhabi both ways. I understood that flights from Cairo could go to or via Europe/UK but certainly I would imagine transits to the US, Europe/UK would be a point of process. I would imagine as is with most processes Internationally, it has more to do with political agreements of process and standards depending on who can deliver to the destinations acceptance or am I working with you or are you working with them...!
Things change all the time and definately new proticol can be negotiated with detailing with the right line of command but generally you should be able to ask for a quote from the different Transport companies and have the details explained then compare what sounds best for you and/or the horses welfare or costs. We went to bring a shipment from EAO in the early 70's and it was going to take us three years from leaving Egypt till arriving in New Zealand. Dad opted for a Shaikh Al Badi son  from Canada as NZ had better relations and it only took six months via US to England transit US to NZ...!
Definitely the more you know can be better or more of a worry. We only have one shipping company out of NZ for flying (to my knowledge) but you can ship horses to Australia by sea... the cost is around $1000 less but I haven't bought myself to put my horse through the three day voyage plus road transport... compared to the 3 and half hour flight and similar road transport...!

3 years? that's crazytalk!! I can't imagine some poor horse being in the middle of travel for 3 years!
Same thing with the whole by sea thing, I'd choose a 3 hour plane flight over a 3 day travel by ship any time.

Sounds like I'll have to call and bug some people to find out any details and those will only be good for so much time.

You could pm Zomorroda on here (Sabine) as I know she imported Zomorroda (the mare) from Egypt to Germany.  I know you want to hear about "to USA", but at least she would know what you need to get sorted in Egypt before you do anything else...

Just mentioning this for completness' sake.. as I only just saw your post.

When I enquired last year about exporting even to the UK, it would have been a LOT of money, say £ 3,500, and the horse would have needed to first be hauled to a registered quarantine for 30 days' board there, followed by the onward hault to the airport, and the crating to Europe (nearest possible airport was Amsterdam) or an airport MILES away in Scotland (the only two options for the UK) and THEN hauling TO the UK.  It was quite daunting (to me), but I am sure it happens all the time!
