There are so many new Arabian equine photographers and wonder if there is someone you would recommend not only for their talent but because they truly love their work and don't suffer from what I call "equine photography burn out". I am currently in love with Brandy Johnson.  She is focused and loves shooting photos of horses.  She looks at the horse, not the pedigree.

Stu Vesty, April Visel and Suzanne are incredible...but the one who makes Arabians and other breeds look like a piece of fine artwork is Wojtek Kwiatkowski, at least in my opinion.

Take a look      http://photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=1561226

The word "dramatic" comes to mind...

He is in the USA on the East Coast sometime this month, I believe, doing farm shoots.  I got an email from him about scheduling a shoot but could not swing it...

I like Christine Emmert's work. She is very good at capturing movement and her photos are all natural, no posing etc.....just the horse as it is, but usually, at it's best.

There are so many wonderful photographers
that have come on the scene...but I have to go
"old school" on this one, just because so many
of their photos are burned in my mind.  Pardon
the obvious but to me:

Jerry Sparagowski and Polly Knoll.

Wow, beautiful photos and I greatly admire and appreciate anyone who can capture the very unique beauty of the Arabian horse.  It's so much harder than it looks! Carol Maginn is also an outstanding photographer.

We were very lucky and had Brandy Johnson take photos of our stallion Zandai Nile Zavon, she had just started and captured Nile Zavon while he was in training at Fantazia Arabians in Ocala. So thrilled to see 4 yrs later how she has really taken off!!!!

I have always been very happy with Nancy Pierce's photography. There are dozens of photos of my own horses that I have seen on her camera during the shoot -- without lighting adjustments, color adjustments etc. that have absolutely "wowed" me. She is very honest about her own work, low maintenance and captures the shots "I ask for". ...love it when the photographer still appreciates the people who are paying her.

A couple of years ago, I decided to have professional photos and video taken of all 16 of my horses . . . as you can well imagine, a huge undertaking financially.  I checked around a bit, and found that to get a USA photographer would cost a lot in travel expenses, which, of course, was to be expected.  During my search, someone fairly local was recommended to me.  A friend had had photos done and was pleased with the early results.  So . . . I booked the person to come.  She was unable to come until late in the season  . . . some of my horses were already starting with their winter coats, but . . .  I decided to go ahead.  She assured me that if there were any horses that I did not get at least 10 shots that I was happy with, she would be happy to do reshoots the following spring.  Once she and her friends arrived, it was obvious that things were not really going as promised, however, some of the early shots looked good, so I continued.  Once the photos were taken, payment in full was demanded, and paid . . .

I was told the photos would be available within 2 weeks for viewing with the finished products being ready about 2 weeks after that.  About 2 months later the proofs were ready . . . . I was extremely happy with the photos for most of the horses, however the pics on three of the horses needed a reshoot . . . she assured me that it would be done in the spring.

Many months went by . . . I phoned, I e-mailed.  Few answers.  Reassurances that things would be done soon, however they never were.  I noticed that her friends had photos taken after me and were already in ads and on-line but . . . mine weren't done.  About this time, the friend that recommended her, called to say that she had not received her finished product either . . . .

In an attempt to make a long story a tad shorter . . . this went back and forth for 2 years.  I had to threaten legal action, and finally got a lawyer.  Finally . . . I have received the photos and videos of my horses.  There were NONE of the promised retakes . . . . she was extremely difficult to deal with, VERY unprofessional.  I had to go through a 3rd party more than once, making these tense for the others as well . . .

I was left with photos and video that are now 2 years old . . . many of the horses have grown and matured.  Some of the photos are great, some are not . . . very inconsistent.  I was left disappointed and dissatisfied with her work.  I won't name names on a public forum, but if anyone is interested they can either contact me by PM, or e-mail.

I also love Nancy Pierce.  She was out 3 weeks ago to shoot my horses...my first time to do this.  She was great to work with and very prompt in her service.  Here's an example of her work.  My Egyptian sired yearling colt in nearly pasture condition (clipped his ears a little but that's all).

We have had the extremely talented Christy Hazel to our farm once a year for the last three years and she never ceases to amaze me with the shots she gets, especially from my crew!  She is SO patient and works hard to get my de-sensitized monsters to give her some expression, lol.  She's the TOPS and we're looking forward to having her back again in 2012!
