Great picture of Gharib! Can't say I've seen that one, but I've seen one of Gassir (or Sabeel?) jumping a similar jump at the EAO. Don't think there are any permissions to post it and I can't find it online. I'll see if I can't get it posted as it's equally as impressive. Arabs can be wonderful jumpers as they are smart and have springs.
I, too, have seen that some Minstril get do well over fences. It's in most Arabian blood, I think, just not in the owners' as strongly.

The photo of Gharib is great, it is always one of my favorites! Does anyone have the photo of Sabeel free jumping in a Hitchcock pen in Egypt? It is another one that shows just how athletic the SE can be. That photo was the reason that for years I lusted after the *Lancers Sahm horses, and finally got to buy Amber Aziza to satisfy that hunger!

I have seen that photo but do not have it personally - couldn't remember if it was Gassir or Sabeel. Hopefully, it will get posted. Like you, I ended up lusting after this line as well but it was well-before seeing the photo. I've seen a few of the Sabeel sire line and more with Gassir through other sources (*Zaghloul & *Lebleba), and the greys, in particular, are dead ringers for him in their own way, IMO. Treff-Haven even has a stallion by the name of T-H Sabeel and he's something else and is comparable to the photos I've seen. T-H Labeeb is a jumper - having blown over his fence before - there's a third full brother as well. They're of a similar type of horse as the pics of Sabeel/Gassir portray. The bay and chestnuts are different types but have some consistent traits: two being exceptional muscling and balance.
Just thinking how interesting it would be to see a Sabeel/Gharib-bred horse (relatively close up).

Here's the picture of Sabeel at the EAO. Photo credit: Barbara Johanson, courtesy of the Johanson family.

Thanks, Kate.

I always admired the Johanson's horses.  As you know, their daughter jumped them in Egypt and also some here in the U.S. They did very well in competition.

Yes,and they excelled in dressage also! It really is a shame that these horses (Johansons) did not leave more descendants, but I understand Johansons really did not stand their stallions to outside mares, as they did not have a large farm/facility set up for that. It really is too bad! At least Treff-Haven managed to keep some of these family lines producing.

He was very good with all the overload. In his younger years, it would have been a different story.

Well, Kalinin has had a few lessons (v small jumps) and he likes it..  Here's a (bad) clip of him popping over a the same jump a couple of times.  We have also jumped him with a human in the saddle !!

There used to be a  group of all Arab Team Chasers in the UK.  They were called The Arabian Knights..  very popular
